What’s Wrong With This Trailer? #12: Moms’ Night Out

Once every year, there comes a trailer that just looks so horrible, you can tell that just didn’t give a crap when they made it. In 2011, it was Judy Moody And The Not Bummer Summer, in 2012, it was The Oogieloves, last year, it was Tyler Perry’s Temptation, and this year, we have a film that just looks so bad. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, here’s the trailer for Moms’ Night Out:

WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH????

I mean, just wow, this looks terrible. Right from the very beginning of the trailer, you can tell that this is going to suck hard.

So, where do I even begin with what’s wrong with this trailer? First off, what the movie is. When I looked up the film on Wikipedia to find out what the movie was going to be, it was described as a “comedy Christian film” but there’s not a single thing in this trailer that looks any different than a regular film. I mean, the reason why I didn’t do a What’s Wrong With This Trailer? on Son Of God and Heaven Is For Real, although I said I was going to do one, was because those movies were hard to make fun of because after watching them again, those early things that would’ve made both films good topics weren’t there anymore. But when I watched this again, I had no choice but to talk about because it looks horrible.

Second thing, the title. When I think of a movie called Moms’ Night Out, I don’t know, I’m expecting something much more aimed at adults, not to the point of an R rated movie but maybe for a PG-13 raunchy comedy along the same lines as Date Night but not this movie that looks like it’s going to be a family friendly version of The Hangover but I’ll get into that later. This would’ve worked fine for something like Baby’s Day Out, which is a movie I used to love as a kid and I still enjoy today, but not for a movie like this.

Third, they actually got good actors to star in this unlike some of the other Christian themed movies that have come out in the last few years where the biggest star in those films have mostly been Kirk Cameron. This time around, they have people like country singer Trace Adkins, Sean Astin, and even Patricia Heaton, she’s got a hit series nowadays, what the hell’s she doing in this?

Fourth, the comedy in this is so horrifically bad. The first joke in the entire movie is just the mother saying how her son is likely to get salmonella from licking his fingers. And that’s it, how is that suppose to be funny? The second joke is Patricia Heaton telling the main mother that life will get better in 5 years time and the main mother going, “What?” Again, how is that funny? But the bizzarest one of all is when the mothers go to a restaurant and the hostess literally tells one of the mothers that her anger is making her ugly. What waitress would be that cruel to one of their customers and for the third time, HOW THE HELL IS THIS SUPPOSE TO BE FUNNY???

And the fifth and most baffling thing that’s wrong with this trailer is the story. “Hey, let’s take The Hangover and mix it with Adventures In Babysitting and make it for kids?” Guess what? They did that already with Fun Size and we all know how well that turned out. But honestly, Fun Size looks like Citizen Kane compared to this.

I just don’t get why anybody would put this movie out and think that families would enjoy it? With Son Of God and Heaven Is For Real, there’s things in there that I can see families wanting to check the movie out but with this, this just looks awful on so many levels. There is nothing about this movie at all that looks worthy of watching and quite frankly, I will not be venturing out to see it and I’m pretty sure nobody else will either.
