The Weekly Awards #2

weeklyawards

Welcome to the first regular edition of The Weekly Awards, where we honor the week in entertainment each week by having specific categories for the best movie of the week, best TV show, best news story of the week, and much more.

So, let’s get started with…

BEST MOVIE OF THE WEEK

Life Itself

The documentary about Roger Ebert based on his memoir debuted on CNN last night and I have to say, it’s one of the greatest documentary films ever made. Combining great emotional moments and showing us the swan song of a legendary figure in his final months of life, Life Itself is definitely one documentary that should be seen by everybody.

CNN will re-air the movie on Friday at 9pm and I highly recommend you check it out.

BEST TV SHOW OF THE WEEK

Galavant

ABC’s new comedy series and the first big premiere of the new year, this show was so friggin’ funny on its’ first night out. Combined with a great cast, a lot of really funny moments, and really great music by Alan Menken, Galavant is the first bright spot of the new year…and yet, it’s being burned off as a four week event. I hope to god that ABC doesn’t just cancel it right off the bat.

WORST EDITING JOB ON A CLASSIC MOVIE

Back To The Future on ABC Family

Why is this the worst editing job? Because they cut out one of the most important plot points of the film, they cut out Doc Brown’s death scene in the beginning of the film at the Twin Pines Mall when he’s gunned down by the Libyans . HOW THE HELL COULD YOU MAKE SUCH A TERRIBLE EDITING DECISION LIKE THAT???

By cutting out that part of that story, the rest of the scenes about that make no sense at all. I mean, for god’s sake, ABC Family, I know that you are so damn trigger happy when it comes to editing out scenes by how did nobody at ABC Family notice that before they put it on the air?

Not only does this create a major plothole in the story but the other scenes revolving around that sequence come off not making any sense whatsoever to anybody who hasn’t seen the film. ABC Family, for the love of god, hire a new editor for your movies to, oh I don’t know, watch the goddamn movie before you edit it.

WORST USE OF PROMOTION

The constant Cinderella ads during New Year’s Eve’s ball drop

Tell me, how many times did you see a promo ad for Disney’s Cinderella, I counted at least 6 or 7 times in that segment. I mean, jesus, ABC, I know you’re owned by Disney but come on, New Years is all about welcome into the new year and you’ve just dated this year’s show considerably.

Better hope that your Cinderella movie is good.

And that’s just the beginning of this new series of postings, check back next week for another edition of The Weekly Awards.
