Comic Dave Chappelle is set to make his Saturday Night Live debut as host of the November 12 show — the first one after Election Day. A Tribe Called Quest, which is releasing its first album since 1998 the day before, will be the musical guest on NBC’s late-night stalwart.
Chappelle is a veteran stand-up comic and actor who made his big-screen debut in Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men in Tights and went on to co-write and star in the 1998 stoner classic Half-Baked. From 2003-06 he starred in the popular influential Comedy Central sketch series Chappelle’s Show. He also produced and starred in the Michel Gondry-helmed docu Dave Chappelle’s Block Party.
Created and produced by Lorne Michael, SNL has been getting plenty of comic fodder from the wacky presidential election. Among its most popular recent bits are the recent Donald Trump-Hillary Clinton debate spoofs, starring Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon. The Saturday Night Live Primetime Election Special will air November 7, the day before America votes.
