Hey, after how horrendous Batman & Robin was, you can’t blame Batman for wanting to fight Robin:
Batman vs. Robin is a direct-to-video animated superhero film which is part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies. The film is partially based on the Batman: The Court of Owls story arc written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion, and serves as a sequel to 2014’s Son of Batman. The film was shown during WonderCon on April 3, 2015. The film was released for downloading on April 7, 2015 and was released on Blu-ray and DVD formats on April 14, 2015.
Jason O’Mara, Stuart Allan, David McCallum and Sean Maher reprise their respective roles from Son of Batman.
Damian Wayne is having a hard time coping with his father’s “no killing” rule. Meanwhile, Gotham is going through trouble with threats, such as the insane toy maker and the secretive Court of Owls.
On one hand, we’ve seen this story done over and over again, the one person going against his superior’s recommendations to a point where he snaps and decides to go rogue, we’ve had this story done countless time before and after. So, yeah, the story here isn’t really all inventive to be honest.
But to the credit of the film, they do a good job of twisting and turning the cliché story points so that it doesn’t end up being formulaic all throughout.
I really enjoyed a lot about this movie, the animation is very good, really good, the voice work is excellent, Jason O’Mara and Stuart Allan are great together as Batman & Robin, you’ve also got Jeremy Sisto as Talon, Kevin Conroy playing Thomas Wayne, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic as the Dollmaker, there’s a really great voice cast here. The music by Frederik Wiedmann is nicely done, the editing by Al Brietenbach, who also did the editing for Batman: The Animated Series, is nicely tight.
Batman Vs. Robin is an extremely solid animated feature that I actually thinks work better than Son of Batman did, the animation is better, the voice cast is better, the music is better, the story runs much better, and the editing is much tighter than the previous movie. You should definitely check this one out.
