State Of The Reviewing Network For December 2016

stateofthereviewingnetwork

Welcome to the State Of The Reviewing Network for the month of December 2016 and let me say once again, Happy New Year, everybody and boy, did we end 2016 on a high note or what? Not only did we have our best day ever with 1,077 views but as 2016 was coming to a close, we finally surpassed the 100,000 view mark so that means we enter 2017 on the best note possible for the future ahead and trust me, we’re got a lot planned for 2017 as you will see below but, as always, we begin with a look at what January has to offer.

TATM: TALKIN’ ABOUT THE MOVIES

This month begins later today with the 10 worst movies of 2016, my long time readers will probably already guess what my worst is. Also this month, two new installments in The Year In Movies series with 1996 and 1995 plus brand new reviews for Sleepless, Hidden Figures, and The Founder.

THE MAGICAL WORLD OF DISNEY

The year begins with a look at Disney’s first live-action movie made, Treasure Island, and then we begin a look at every Pixar movie with Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, & Monsters Inc.

THE REVIEWING NETWORK LIVE

This month, we’ll watch The Secret Life Of Pets on New Year’s Day, live watches of The Golden Globe Awards and the AFC Championship Game, Finding Dory, and The LEGO Movie.

MY TAKE ON…

Topics of discussion this month include answering the question if Doug was actually ruined by Disney, wonder if the 1980s was that last decade when you can get away with anything, wonder why we keep making stupid movies, ask when a TV show should end its’ run, and with the Super Bowl coming up, really ask ourselves if wearing white in the Super Bowl means an automatic win or not.

MOVIES IN MY COLLECTION

This month, a new Quickie Reviews looking at Southside With You among with other movies, the latest update of my DVD & Blu-Ray collection, two new In Defense Of… posts looking at Multiplicity and Fat Albert, and we’ll look at this month’s two new Netflix shows, The OA & Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events.

ARROW & THE FLASH

A look at new episodes of Arrow & The Flash and a continued look at Arrow season 2 and Legend Of Tomorrow season 1.

TV SHOWCASE

TALKING SIMPSONS

In January, we’ll wrap up season 16 and get into season 17 plus we’ll take a look at new episodes including the first one hour episode of the show, The Great Phatsby.

DO YOU REMEMBER?

This month, we’ll look at the bizarre Punky Brewster animated series, the largely forgotten Histeria!, more oddity with The California Raisins Show, and The Baby-Sitters Club.

WHO’S THE BETTER FRANCHISE?

This month’s big battle is between the 1982 sci-fi cult classic, Tron, and its’ 2010 sequel, Tron Legacy.

ACTORS’ SPOTLIGHT

This month, we’ll spotlight the careers of Liam Neeson, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis, and Keanu Reeves.

MORE TO SAY

This month, we’ll look at Sisters, Sing, Passengers, & Fences.

Now that we’ve looked at January, let’s take a look at some of the posts we’ll be doing throughout the year as we’re already looking ahead to 2017:

TATM: TALKIN’ ABOUT THE MOVIES

In 2017, we’ll see more installments in The Year In Movies as we continue our 50 part series starting with 1994 in early February and, if all things go right, by December, we’ll be all the way down to 1980. Also this year, new reviews of hotly anticipated films from The Lego Batman Movie to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. to Logan all the way down to Star Wars Episode VIII. As of right now, expect 42 brand new reviews this year from me for the year’s biggest movies.

THE MAGICAL WORLD OF DISNEY

As I said, we’ll look at every Pixar movie ever and later on in the year, we’ll begin a look at every direct-to-video Disney sequel and that will take us all the way through 2018…and yes, I did take the idea from Doug Walker’s Disneycember but I’m admitting it now.

THE REVIEWING NETWORK LIVE

Super Bowl LI, the Oscars, movies tying in to upcoming releases, the usual stuff.

MY TAKE ON…

Many discussions this year on the various topics in Hollywood and the world take control this year again as usual.

MOVIES IN MY COLLECTION

This year, there will be more Quickie Reviews, more DVD & Blu-Ray collection updates, more In Defense Of… posts, and we’ll use this to be the main area for Netflix reviews.

ARROW & THE FLASH

A look at new episodes of Arrow & The Flash and a continued look at Arrow season 2 and Legend Of Tomorrow season 1 and season 2 later on in the year.

TV SHOWCASE

2017 will include more of Veep, Halt & Catch Fire, Mad Men, and Girls and hopefully, some more shows to be added later in the year.

THE TALK ABOUT NOTHING

If all goes according to plan, we’ll wrap up the entire run of Seinfeld hopefully by the end of this year.

THE TV WEEKLY

The rest of the “sixth season” includes the top 10 best Super Bowls, UPN getting a salute to broadcast network campaigns, the top 10 underrated TV theme songs, some new Why You Need To Watch posts for The Mindy Project and Disney’s Mickey Mouse, the 10 best 30 Rock episodes, a spinoff of The Year In Movies posts with the beginning of The Year In Television, the 10 best Garfield & Friends episodes, the 6th annual top 10 shows you need to be watching list, an annual breakdown of the broadcast network pilots for 2017 – 18, why NCIS is still going strong, a new segment called Was It Really Good Or Not? where we take a look and see if popular shows still hold up with time, and finally, an In Defense Of… for The Cleveland Show.

TALKING SIMPSONS

In 2017, we’ll, as I said begin entering season 17, continue looking at new episodes throughout the year, and by the end of the year, hopefully, we’ll be getting to around season 20.

DO YOU REMEMBER?

A lot of nostalgic stuff we’ll be looking this year including Carmen Sandiego, a look at the stupid age of reality television, the Fraggle Rock animated series, Duckman, Bill Nye The Science Guy and Jetsons: The Movie plus possibly we’ll look at a few more Charlie Brown and Scooby Doo specials.

WHO’S THE BETTER FRANCHISE?

Early battles being planned for the first quarter of the year including battles between Seinfeld & Louie, Annie (1982) and Annie (2014), and Tom & Jerry and Sylvester & Tweety.

ACTORS’ SPOTLIGHT

Celebrities we’ll look at in 2017 will include the five previously mentioned as well as Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Meg Ryan, Hugh Jackman and more to be named later.

THE MUSIC ROOM

This year, more Musical Spotlights beginning with the Spice Girls and hopefully, by the end of this year, we’ll finally look at my top 10 worst Christmas songs.

THE REVIEWING NETWORK’S FAVORITE MOVIES

Movies we’ll look at in 2017 include Jackie Brown, Batman Begins, Lethal Weapon, Pulp Fiction, both King Kong movies (1933 and 2005), Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Liar Liar & Up just to name a few.

MORE TO SAY

We’ll look at more movies that I saw over the holidays as well as other films that I’ve yet to fully talk about.

Also, the returns of The Untitled Better Call Saul Posting, Recap Of Thrones, Marvelous May, DC-Ember, and much more.

BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES EPISODIC REVIEWS COMING IN 2017 FOR 25TH ANNIVERSARY

2017 will be the 25th anniversary of the series that started it all, Batman: The Animated Series.

My original plan was to have it be a month long event for DC-Ember 2017 but I figure that I’ll save that for something else for now.

I had originally planned for this to start up on New Years Day BUT we’ll save that for later on in the year but when I finally announce when it will be coming, we’ll be taking a look at every Batman: The Animated Series episode, all 85 episodes with an episode being reviewed every day for 85 days in 2017.

If successful, I’ll also think about looking into episodic reviews for the other Bruce Timm produced animated series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Justice League if the demand is there.

MORE EXPANSION COMING TO THE REVIEWING NETWORK YOUTUBE CHANNEL

In late 2016, we launched our first ever Youtube channel where you can check out new Movie Stop episodes every Saturday night but also, check out unboxings, Blu-Ray & DVD collection updates, special videos. Heck, I recently got a chance to watch the Ravens Steelers game on Christmas Day at Heinz Field and that video has quickly become the most watched video on the channel with over 4,000 views in just one week:

2017 will see more of an expansion of the channel as there will be more specials like this and much more.

ANDROID & NEWSLINE SCRIPT UPDATES

Yeah, remember last year when I said I was gonna start writing two more scripts after I had finished writing Wasteland? Yeah, I never got around to writing those scripts in 2016 but in 2017, I’m going to do my damndest to get those scripts into development…won’t be easy but I made a promise to get those scripts out so, I’ll try my best getting those out this year.

OTHER IDEAS IN THE WORKS

I do have other ideas I’m working on for the site for the rest of the year.

Some of those ideas include maybe a sports themed post for around the big sporting events like the Stanley Cup, the NBA Finals, the World Series, and the 2017 NFL & NBA seasons. Another idea I had was to do a Talking Simpsons-style post with another animated series created by Matt Groening, Futurama. Lastly, an idea I’ve had since all the way back in the old Spill.com days, Dream Cast where I take an upcoming project and establish my own personal cast for the project chosen.

Those are some of the ideas I have for the year ahead so we’ll see what happens. All-in-all, 2017 is looking up for us here at The Reviewing Network.

With that said, that’s going to wrap up the State Of The Reviewing Network for the month of December. Be sure to check back on Tuesday February 1st for the State Of The Reviewing Network for the month of January.
