The 16th season comes to a close with The Father, The Son, & The Holy Guest Star, episode 21 of th season and 356th overall, first broadcasted on May 15, 2005 with a script by Matt Warburton and directed by Michael Polcino.

Bart gets expelled from school and transfers to a Catholic school, where a hip priest named Father Sean (guest star Liam Neeson) tries to convert Bart and Homer to Catholicism, which worries Marge when she believes that Catholics do not go to the same heaven as Protestants and discovers that Catholic women do not use birth control.

Going back to what The Simpsons does best, satirizing a topical subject, this time being religious tolerance and this helps ends the middling sixteenth season of the series on a much higher note than it started on.
