Disney is on a roll with the live-action remakes. The next one on their list is the beloved and classic The Lion King. The film is set to begin shooting in May in Los Angeles.
You can check out a screenshot of the announcement below. The announcement of production also comes with a brief story summary, although it’s not clear whether this is the official synopsis for the film.
The film will star Donald Glover (Han Solo) as Simba and will bring back James Earl Jones as the wise Mufasa. The film is being written by Jeff Nathanson and will be directed by Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau.
Favreau is no stranger to live-action CGI, but the fact that The Lion King is so beloved and cherished by many the world over brings a sense of responsibility and Favreau has taken that into account.
In other live-action Disney news, Mulan will be going into production minus its songs.
The film will be in theaters in 2018.
