Debuting at Star Wars Convention in Orlando this weekend, the first official teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, opening December 15th, has been released:
So, there you go, our first look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi….and it looks so friggin’ good.
I mean, there’s not really a whole lot you can say that’s not in this teaser, they do such a good job of building on what they’ve already established in Force Awakens. I like how we’re getting Rian Johnson’s unique approach to the series while also seeing some of JJ Abrams’ influence he left from the last movie.
Granted, we’re not getting a whole lot plotwise but again, it’s a teaser, we’ve still got seven months before this comes out, patience, my pets.
I do like how it seems like Luke is going to be the Yoda to Rey’s Luke and you definitely get the sense this movie is going to be heavily inspired by Empire Strikes Back, which could be either a good thing or a bad thing. It could be good because they could use the influence of what made Empire Strikes Back a classic but it could also be bad if they are just going to just mimic what made Empire Strikes Back a classic and screw up the goodwill they got on Force Awakens, which I hope does not happen, you finally have Star Wars back on the right track again and you’re going half ass it right now?
I am kind of curious of what John Boyega’s role is going to be in this because from the little bit we saw of him, he’s still recovering after being badly wounded from the lightsaber battle at the end of Force Awakens. Will he just be relegated to the side or will he actually have more to do in this? Also, it’ll be interesting to see how big of a role Carrie Fisher will have in this and how her death will affect the future of these films.
I will say, the visuals in this once again look spectacular, I loved the red smoke effect that was coming out of the ships when they went done.
Again, there’s not really a whole lot to go on with this teaser but so far, I’m very impressed with what I’m seeing so far for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’ll be interesting to see what Rian Johnson brings to the franchise and to see what this movie will do to top what Force Awakens was able to accomplish. This teaser definitely shows a lot of promise to it and my interest is definitely peaked, hopefully the year will end with this being a high note.
