Talking Simpsons #481: Yokel Chords

Yokel Chords, the 14th episode of season 18 and the 392nd overall, was first broadcasted on March 4, 2007 with a script by Michael Price and directed by Susie Dietter.

Lisa becomes a teacher for Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel’s children after Principal Skinner bars them from enrolling in Springfield Elementary. Meanwhile, Bart ends up in therapy after scaring his peers with stories of a school chef notorious for cooking children. Meg Ryan, James Patterson, Andy Dick, Stephen Sondheim, and Peter Bogdanovich guest star.

For this episode, I really had a hard time trying to figure out how to rate it. On the one hand, I thought there were some legitimately funny moments and interesting ideas for stories. I did like this idea of Bart reaching out to this psychiatrist played very well by Meg Ryan and I thought the idea of having Cleatus’ kids working with Lisa was a nice idea. But on the other hand, the episode is very disjointed to say the least, I really did not think the overall structure to connect both of these plots were as well done as I know the show is better at handling.

I don’t know, I’m very mixed on this one, I liked some of the jokes, I liked the ideas for stories, I just don’t think it was executed as well as it could’ve easily have been.
