Batman: The Animated Series 25th Anniversary #99: Critters

Critters was first broadcasted on September 19, 1998 with a script by Joe Lansdale and a story by Steve Gerber and directed by Dan Riba.

A genetic engineer goes overboard in creating bigger livestock and loses all his money. A year later, an army of mutant farm animals terrorize Gotham City.

Well, the streak of really good Batman revival episodes had to end at some point and wow, this one was pretty bad. In fact, I’d be willing to go as far as to say that it’s the overall worst episode in the Batman: The Animated Series line.

I really didn’t like this episode at all, the villain, Farmer Brown, is such a bland boring villain, he’s not that much of a threat, there’s way too many boring and uneventful moments all throughout the episode, and it just doesn’t work.

Yeah, it’s got good animation but I’m sorry, there’s nothing about this episode that works at all. It’s so needless, I know that the creators have a soft spot for it because it’s a plot that would’ve worked for the Adam West Batman series but not in this series that you’ve already set up as a more darker and more serialized storyline. The worst episode in the history of this series by far.
