Actors’ Spotlight #154: Luke Wilson

Luke Cunningham Wilson (born September 21, 1971) is an American actor known for his roles in films such as Idiocracy, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, The Ridiculous 6, Old School, Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums, Blue Streak, Bongwater, and Legally Blonde. He was a member of the cast of the HBO television series Enlightened (2011–13). He is the younger brother of actors Andrew Wilson and Owen Wilson.

Luke Wilson’s kind of an underrated actor, his brother Owen’s usually getting more prominent roles but Luke Wilson definitely has had his fair share of great stuff plus I think between the two, he’s probably the most charismatic of the two. Anytime you have Luke Wilson right in your face selling Colgate toothpaste and I’m not creeped out, the guy is doing something right:

He has made some good stuff and some bad stuff too and so we start with the look at some of Luke Wilson’s worst movies he’s made:

5. Concussion

Now to be perfectly fair, Will Smith was good in the movie, he’s the best thing about the movie but everything else about the movie is just so toned down for a topic that can not be toned down. This is why you don’t let the NFL get involved with your movie because they are going to tell you how far you can go and this movie plays the topics of concussions so safe and tries to make the NFL come off as the good guys, this might as well be a movie about Sarcastiball than football.

4. The Ridiculous 6

Adam Sandler and his friends making yet another shitty comedy because they have no dignity anymore.

3. Blonde Ambition

A bad direct-to-DVD movie with Jessica Simpson basically in a lazy remake of Private Benjamin.

2. Rock Dog

Luke Wilson leading a CG animated comedy as a young Tibetan Mastiff who leaves his home village in the mountains to become a rock musician in the big city after a radio falls from the sky. Lousy animation, mediocre story, and just lazy all around, terrible movie.

and the #1 worst Luke Wilson movie is…

Hoot

A bland and lazy family film that’s just boring and uneventful, if this town is so excited about a pancake house opening up in town, then your film has a huge problem if that’s part of your main premise.

Those are the worst, now here are the best Luke Wilson movies:

5. Idiocracy

A classic underrated Mike Judge comedy with Wilson, Dax Shepard, and Maya Rudolph among the cast along with very funny comedy all around, great movie.

4. Blue Streak

Martin Lawrence in his best movie as the leading actor, a lot of great funny jokes, a great setup storywise, just one of the funniest comedies to come out that year.

3. Old School

Again, very run of the mill storywise but it’s the cast and the comedy that make it hold together, Vaughn working alongside Luke Wilson and Will Ferrell very well and just some funny, funny stuff in this movie.

2. 3:10 To Yuma

One of the more underrated remakes of recent memory with Bale and Russell Crowe working off each other really well.

and the #1 best Luke Wilson movie is…

The Royal Tenenbaums

The movie that introduced me to the brilliance of director Wes Anderson, Owen Wilson co-wrote and is part of an incredible ensemble cast that manages to combine great comedy and drama impressively.
