Talking Simpsons #725: Poorhouse Rock

The 33rd season finale of The Simpsons, Poorhouse Rock, was written by Tim Long and directed by Jennifer Moeller.

After Bart humiliates him at church, Homer finally teaches his son to admire his dad — until a visit from a magical, singing janitor changes everything.

It’s interesting how the season began with a musical episode….and ends with a musical episode.

And also, it’s surprisingly pretty damn good the season finale is. I will say that the first half of the episode is pretty slow and doesn’t really amount to much in terms of what the episode ends up becoming.

But then the musical number kicks in and I tell you, when Hugh Jackman shows up as the magical singing janitor, it just works. It’s a great pair of musical numbers that are very well done, catchy, and feature some pretty solid animation all around.

The story doesn’t really connect all that well but the musical numbers make up for it in the end and leads to a pretty solid and enjoyable end to a pretty solid and enjoyable season of The Simpsons proving that the show is back in full form.
