Treehouse Of Horror XXX was written by J. Stewart Burns and directed by Timothy Bailey.
This year’s trio of terror includes a Stranger Things parody where Milhouse goes missing, Homer dying (again) and his spirit trying out new bodies, and Selma finally finding her perfect mate: an alien living in The Simpsons basement.
Gotta love how right away they poke fun at the new Disney bosses as if they weren’t owned by the company already in that opening bit.
I will say this, the last couple of Treehouse Of Horror episodes, usually the strongest episodes of the most recent seasons, have been kind of mediocre as of late. The last one that I thought was a great episode all the way through was the 25th one with the crossover of the Tracey Ullman Simpsons characters and the regular characters. The ones after were okay but they never had that spark to keep the episodes entertaining throughout, though I will say the Coralisa segment in the 28th episode was pretty solid.
In terms of this episode, I really enjoyed this one a lot, I thought all the segments worked really well, I liked the parody they did of Stranger Things, I really liked The Shape Of Water parody, and even the Heaven Swipes Right segment was really good and…let’s be honest, looks like a much better representation of its’ concept than that shitty looking Countdown movie that’s about to come out this week.
Treehouse Of Horror XXX is the first overall great Treehouse Of Horror episode I’ve loved since XXV, it has four great segments that work really well, animated very nicely, great parodies to their source material, and it’s just another great episode for what has been, for the most part, a pretty solid season thus far four episodes in, hopefully that trend continues and the show is back on track to recapture some of its’ former glory.
