Talking Simpsons #680: The Hateful Eight Year Olds

The Hateful Eight Year Olds was written by Joel H. Cohen and directed by Jennifer Moeller.

Lisa joins a group of rich girls when she makes a friend who loves horses; Homer takes Marge on a romantic cruise.

I just showed you the best part of the episode…no, really, Weezer performing the theme to The Simpsons is honestly the best aspect of this dull mediocre episode.

In a time where the series has been on a roll in the last few years with more hits than misses, the misses really are ones that miss the bullet and to me, this really missed the bullet, this just was not a good episode.

It tries, it has some little moments here and there that allow for some good chuckles but the overall plots are not that strong or inventive, with Lisa’s story, you never really believe that she could be friends with any of these girls she’s hanging out with and with the Homer and Marge story, there’s really no story there, it’s just filler to fill out the runtime, there’s no real conflict and it resolves itself quickly before it even begins.

The whole episode is kind of pointless and I get what they are trying to do, they’re trying to do a story in the vein of Tarantino’s Hateful Eight down to mimicking the music and the style of the film but The Hateful Eight Year Olds needed more fleshed out storylines, better jokes, and overall more sense to make it work, aside from a few brief moments of positivity, the episode as a whole is just not very good, it just doesn’t come together as well as I think they wanted it to be.
